EXPORTING HORSES FROM CANADA

It is not difficult to export horses from Canada to the United States.

Here are a few steps to take.

STEP 1.   Make your purchase and complete your transaction with the breeder and obtain a "Bill of Sale", they may ask you for one at the border crossing.

STEP 2.   Contact a veterinarian, usually the breeder knows one that can get a  coggins test and a health certificate. The local vets are aware of the requirements to cross the border.

STEP 3.  After you have the negative coggins and a health certificate call the U.S. border and make an appointment with the veterinarian, this of course insures that he will be there so you can make the crossing in a timely fashion.  It usually takes about 30 minutes  for the paper work and for the vet to inspect your horses.  The fee is normally $27.00 per horse.  If you are hauling your own horses a broker fee is not required.
