CanAm Sport Horses Impressive in Manitoba Young Horse Championships at

2011 Royal Manitoba Winter Fair

Congratulations to two CanAm Sport Horses, Skye III and Geo, who turned in notable efforts in the 2011 Manitoba Young Horse Championships, Four and Five Year Old Divisions, at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair held at the Keystone Centre in Brandon, Manitoba.  As a bonus, each picked up $500.00 in cash awards for being the CanAm Sport Horse high point earner in the Young Horse Championship divisions.  They were also the high point Canadian-bred Sport Horse (CSHA) in their respective divisions, receiving breeder plaques for this distinction.

The Young Horse Championships are designed to showcase young Manitoba-bred horses. Competition consists of four classes: conformation, hunter, jumper and dressage. Points are awarded for each class and the horse accumulating the most points is declared Champion.

This was the first year at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair that CanAm Sport Horses were eligible to win $500.00 for accumulating the most points in each division of the Young Horse Championships.  The awards were sponsored by the North American Equine Ranching Information Council (NAERIC) as a way to promote and reward NAERIC registered sport horses, also known as CanAm Sport Horses, when competing in these highly regarded classes.

Skye was Reserve Champion in the Young Horse Competition Four-Year-Old Division, including a second placing in three classes, the Pre-children’s & Adult Amateur Hunter Over Fences Stake, winning a $75.00 prize; Young Horse Hunter Suitability Four-Year-Old Class, and Young Horse Jumper Suitability Four-Year-Old Class.   Geo was Reserve Champion in the Young Horse Show Hack Class for Five-Year-Olds.

Four-year-old CanAm Sport Horse Skye is by the Hanoverian stallion Samual and out of the Thoroughbred-Percheron crossbred mare, Lenore. She was bred by Ravine Ranch Sport Horses, Deb & Doug King and Sons, Lenore, Manitoba.  Skye is a sale graduate of the 2007 CanAm Sport Horse Sale and Futurity held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, and is owned by Cynthia Kulczycki of Dugald, Manitoba.  Skye also won the $3,500 CanAm Sport Horse Futurity in which all sale weanlings were eligible to compete.

Geo is a five-year-old CanAm Sport Horse sired by registered Hanoverian stallion Gringo and is out of a registered appendix Quarter Horse mare, Map Easy Delight.  He is owned by Samantha Harland of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, and is another home bred of Ravine Ranch Sport Horses.

In addition to their cash prize winnings, Skye and Geo both are also eligible to win award money through the NAERIC Advantage® an incentive program that rewards horses bred by NAERIC member ranchers when they compete successfully at approved events.

More than 48,000 horses are registered with NAERIC so far and are eligible to earn NAERIC Advantage ® rewards. NAERIC horse owners, participating in NAERIC approved events, have received over $2,900,000.00 since 1998. Does your horse qualify for NAERIC Advantage ® money? Search for NAERIC registered horses and find out more about the NAERIC Advantage® on the NAERIC web site at www.naeric.org.

CanAm Sport Horse, M-S Reddy Fox, Qualifies for

 Young Event Horse Series Championship

CanAm Sport Horse, M-S Reddy Fox,  is the first four-year-old in the United States to qualify for the USEA/Spalding Lab Championships to be held in conjunction with the Wellpride American Eventing Championships, September 13-16, 2007, at the Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, Illinois.

M-S Reddy Fox, a.k.a., Foxy, was the only four-year-old to break the 70 percent mark, which is the score necessary (two total) to qualify for the Series championships, in winning the Waredeca Horse Trials on June 1, 2007/

Owned by Rosemarie Merle-Smith of Virginia Field Hunters in Trevilians, Virginia, and ridden by daughter Nicolette, Foxy stood out with his unique snowflake Appaloosa blanket coloring.  Merle-Smith purchased Foxy on a trip to Saskatchewan when he was a weanling.

The flashy gelding shows promise as both a foxhunter and eventer. "Foxy is a very laid back gelding with superior manners,” says Merle-Smith. “He has just enough "spook" that he jumps very carefully. I really can't fault him. He hacks out quietly by himself but doesn't mind crowds either when he has foxhunted. He has only been ridden by family members and never by a “professional.”

Young Event Horse classes are designed toward education and preparation in a progressive manner. Youngsters are asked to complete three sections: Conformation and Type; Dressage; Jumping/Suitability and Potential. The ultimate goal of the Young Event Horse Series is to choose the youngster that possesses the talent and mind set, and who with proper training, will excel in the uppermost levels of the eventing world.
